The research focus of the laboratory is the development of advanced materials, i.e., materials with the potential to facilitate development of new, or significant enhancement of existing technologies. Our primary interest is in materials with practical potential in energy conversion and storage, optoelectronics, electronics and related applications. Our research is organized in four mutually supporting and interacting areas:

Examples of the research themes pursued within the laboratory include:

Development of 2D nanomaterials for electronics

Development and characterization of 2D nanomaterials structurally related to graphene, studies of the effects of quantum confinement on their properties and their testing in electrochromic and electronic devices, batteries and other applications.

Development of semiconductor nanostructures for energy storage and conversion applications

Development and characterization of nanostructures based on luminescent semiconductor quantum dots, study of their activity in electro- and photo-catalysis and their utilization in optoelectronics and electronics.

Development of stable narrow-bandgap perovskites

Development of methods for preparation of thermally and chemically stable narrow bandgap (VIS-NIR spectral range) perovskites. Studies of their optical and electronic properties and their testing in photocatalysis, photovoltaics and other optoelectronic applications.

Development of aerogels and sol-gels for photocatalysis and other applications

Development of highly porous, super-light aerogel and sol-gel materials using supercritical preparation methods. Studies of optical and electrical properties of new materials and their testing in photocatalytic solar energy storage, filtration of toxic impurities and other applications.
