RESEARCH
Our research is focused on several areas of biomedical sciences. Their common feature is investigation of the fundamental metabolic pathways in selected prokaryotes (mycobacteria) and eukaryotes (yeast and protozoa). The main emphasis is placed on identification of the molecular mechanisms, which are essential for viability and/or virulence of microbial pathogens causing the serious diseases, such as tuberculosis, sleeping sickness or candidiasis. The research is focused on biogenesis of eukaryotic organelles, molecular architecture and stability of genomes, DNA replication and the function of telomeres, aging and the programmed cell death, mitochondrial metabolism, bioenergetics, biosynthesis of the bacterial cell walls and the structures of selected proteins.
