LABORATORY OF PROTOZOOLOGY
The laboratory is mainly focused on the study of protozoan mitochondrial metabolism. Model organisms are trypanosomatids, euglenas, and diplonemas, which are excellent models for researching the fascinating diversity of biochemical processes resulting from different living conditions. The pathogenicity of trypanosomatids makes this model even more attractive because new findings can be used to more effectively combat the diseases they cause. Emphasis is placed on oxidative phosphorylation, mitochondrial proteases, lipid composition of mitochondrial membranes and its influence on the processes within.
