GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY LABORATORY

The 8890 gas chromatograph with flame ionization (GC-FID)

The 8890 gas chromatograph with flame ionization (GC-FID) and 5977 mass spectrometry detector (GC-MS) from Agilent Technologies enables the separation, identification and quantification of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (boiling point approx. up to 400 °C) in complex mixtures.

Separation of compounds is possible on various types of chromatographic columns and identification based on measured EI mass spectra and comparison with a spectrum library.

Location: Gas Chromatography Laboratory, CH2-437

Mass Spectrometry Laboratory

High-resolution hybrid Orbitrap Exploris 240 mass spectrometer (with a resolution of 240,000 FWHM at m/z 200), equipped with a robotic autosampler (TriPlus RSH EQuan 850), and an automated sample preparation system in an in-line SPE/LC configuration (UHPLC Vanquish Flex, Thermo Fisher Scientific). The configuration enables injection for conventional LC, in the range of 5–100 µL, as well as in-line SPE LC, in the range of 0.5–5 mL, without the need to replace hardware components such as the sample loop or syringe; only software settings are required.

The software enables control of all system components, creation and storage of methods, data evaluation using TraceFinder Software, as well as advanced processing and interpretation of spectra of both known and unknown molecules using Compound Discoverer Software.

Location: Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, CH2-332
