Plagiarism and Violation of Academic Rights
Plagiarism, such as intentional copying of text and presenting it as one's own, or inaccurate quoting or omitting citations from the source used, is to some extent regulated by Act 131/2001 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments to Certain Acts and Act 618/2003 Coll. on Copyright and Rights Related to Copyright, and its proof may have serious consequences even for a member of the academic community.
As part of the ethical principles, members of the academic community undertake to:
- take care to protect copyright and other intellectual property rights;
- respect the relevant and internationally recognized publication rules - authorship and co-authorship of a scientific publication, including co-authorship and student participation - for the presentation and publication of the results of educational, scientific research and artistic activities; does not publish in an ethically questionable manner, does not appropriate the results of the work of others;
- cite correctly and correctly according to internationally recognized rules for citing the information sources used.
The use of AI-based language models, such as ChatGTP or Copilot, carries several risks in scientific communication. The basic premise is that an AI tool cannot be a co-author of a scientific publication and therefore such a tool cannot be responsible for writing larger parts or the entire publication. It is generally accepted to use AI tools for language proofreading, literature summaries, etc. Any use of AI tools must be listed in the Acknowledgement section. The rules for using AI are constantly evolving and it is advisable to follow the recommendations of the given journal.
Scientific journals from trusted publishers always have detailed ethical recommendations for authors, it is important to familiarize yourself with them. When sending manuscripts, the corresponding author declares that the team followed them.
