Research area

My research is focused on:

·         environmental geochemistry of toxic elements

·         environmental biotechnology and bioremediation

·         environmental microbiology, mycology and geomicrobiology

·         wine research and wine terroirs

My current research includes the observation of uptake, binding and transformation of potentially toxic elements such as arsenic, antimony, selenium, cadmium, lead, mercury, thallium, tellurium and bismuth by microscopic filamentous fungi through biosorption, bioaccumulation, biovolatilization and bioleaching.

These microbial processes are considered to be important parts of biogeochemical cycles of toxic elements affecting their mobility, speciation, bioavailability and toxicity. All results of laboratory and field works are applied to education processes of several environmental courses at the faculty.

My research is also focused on impact of relief, climate, microorganisms, soils and vegetation on the distribution of chemical elements in vineyards to study Slovak wine terroirs.
