Project summary

Analysis of land use changes is closely related to land cover research, changes in land cover indicate the intensity of natural and socio-economic processes in the country. The project aims to evaluate spatiotemporal  changes of land use and their physiognomic expressions in the form of land cover; based on analyzes of historical maps, aerial and satellite imagery, databases and field research.  The results of the assessment of the changes will be compared with the impact of natural and socio-economic factors on them. The research will be carried out on case studies representing regions of urbanized, agricultural and forestry landscape of Slovakia. Current solutions for field geographic research, map and database analyzes, work with GIS and statistical software will be applied. The results will help to optimize the spatial structure of the landscape (e.g. in areas affected by floods, wind disturbances, large-scale arable land cultivation, etc.).

Key words

Land use; land cover; landscape development analysis; GIS; Slovakia.
