Project summary
Agriculture in Slovakia is an important part of the national economy, both in terms of ensuring food self-sufficiency in changing international conditions, especially on the EU common market. From an economic point of view, sharp increase in all inputs, especially fertilizers and energy, due to the international market situation can be solved by use of new, effective technologies and procedures of the preservation and development in viticulture. Parallel, a strong impact of climate change in last decades in Slovakia is observed. Raising average temperature and changing in precipitation periods and also a growing number of invasive insect pests are detected in viticulture areas. The wine producers therefore must adapt their activity regarding to this situation. Precision viticulture is a way to increase agricultural production by reducing negative environmental impacts. The project is focused on the implementation of new technologies for insect pest monitoring, data collection and interpretation using GIS (geographical information systems) and remote sensing methods in viticulture.
