RNDr. Jaroslav Lexa, CSc. Petrology of the Jastrabá Formation rhyolites The Jastrabá Formation represents products of the Late Sarmatian rhyolite volcanic activity in the area of the Central Slovakia Volcanic Field. Despite repeated efforts to solve its petrology genesis and evolution of rhyolites is not explained satisfactorily and unquestionably. Relevant answers should be find to questions as there are: association with geotectonic evolution of the region, relation to preceding and contemporaneous andesite magmatism, a role of the upper mantle processes, a share of the lower/upper crust anatexis and assimilation, an impact of high-pressure fractionation in the lower crust, evolution of rhyolite magmas in the upper crust environment, a role of rhyolite magma mixing/mingling with mafic magmas, and a role of rhyolite magma in metallogeny of epithermal systems in Štiavnické vrchy and Kremnické vrchy mountain ranges. To find the answers it is necessary to evaluate existing data and to gather new data on petrography, mineral thermobarometry, melt inclusions and rock geochemistry including radiogenic and stabile isotopes using modern instrumental techniques. Implementation of the theme requires a good background in the fields of mathematics, physics (thermodynamics) and geochemistry as well as an ability to work with actual petrology publications (a good knowledge of the English language). RNDr. Igor Broska, DrSc. Correlation of typomorphic minerals of S-type granites in Gemeric unit with relative types of granites Granites in Gemeric unit crop out as small bodies of Permian granites known as specialised S-type granites. High amount of volatiles F and B resulted in special mineralisation of the apical parts of these intensively fractionated granite bodies. Accessory mineral association is characterised in these granites by presence of tourmaline, apatite and monazite, zircon with special morphology and Nb-Ta-W-Sn mineralization. Up to now these granites are not satisfactorily correlated with related types of granites e.g. Klenovec granites (Veporicum, Western Carpathians) and granites from SE Europe or from junction of Europe and Asia close to Black Sea. Petrochemistry, geochronology and association of accessory minerals in relation to the geotectonic evolution of host granites will be dominantly used for correlation.
